Birth plan

Dr’s Visit Today

Had a good Dr’s appt today. She approved my birth plan with only 2 changes that I agreed too. First is I agreed to a hep lock and also to monitoring 15mins per hour. Everything else was ok though, I couldn’t ask for more from a hospital birth. I know people share birth plans so here’s mine if it will help someone else:

Birth Preferences for xxxxXXXXXxxxxx
Due Date: Nov. 25, 2004
Patient of xxxxXXXXXxxxxxx
Scheduled to deliver at xxxxXXXXXxxxx

Goal
Unmedicated VBAC

Labor
I would like to be free to walk around change position at will throughout labor .
I would prefer to keep the number of vaginal exams to a minimum.
I do not want an IV unless I become dehydrated.

Monitoring
I do not wish to have continuous fetal monitoring unless it is required by the condition of our baby.

Labor Augmentation/Induction
I do not wish to have the amniotic membrane ruptured artificially unless signs of fetal distress require internal monitoring.
If labor is not progressing, I would like to have the amniotic membrane ruptured before other methods are used to augment labor.

Anesthesia/Pain Medication
I realize that many pain medications exist — I’ll ask for them if I need them.

Cesarean
unless absolutely necessary, I would like to avoid a repeat Cesarean.

Episiotomy
I would prefer not to have an episiotomy unless absolutely required for the baby’s safety.

Delivery
I would like to be allowed to choose the position in which I give birth, including squatting.
Even if I am fully dilated, and assuming our baby is not in distress, I would like to wait until I feel the urge to push before beginning the pushing phase.
I would appreciate having the room lights turned low for the actual delivery.
I would appreciate having the room as quiet as possible when our baby is born.

Immediately After Delivery
I would prefer that the umbilical cord stop pulsating before it is cut.
If our baby must be taken from me to receive medical treatment, my husband or some other person I designate will accompany our baby at all times.
I would like to delay the eye medication for our baby until a couple hours after birth.
I would like to donate the umbilical cord blood if possible.

Postpartum
unless required for health reasons, I do not wish to be separated from our baby.
I would like to have our baby ‘room in’ and be with me at all times.

Breastfeeding
I will breastfeed our baby and would like to begin nursing very shortly after birth.
I do not wish to have any bottles given to our baby (including glucose water or plain water).
I do not want our baby to be given a pacifier.

Circumcision
I do not want our baby circumcised.

Other
I would like my husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and my daughter to be at the birth.
I would like to labor at home as long as possible, I live 2 miles from the hospital.
I would like the option to use my own cloth diapers in the hospital.
No Hep B shot

I need some ZZZzzzZZZ’s

This pregnancy insomnia sucks! It doesn’t matter how tired I am, I can’t sleep. I can get comfortable in bed, I just can’t fall asleep. I feel like I”m walking around in a haze. Why is it so hard to sleep??? This sucks because the baby will be up nursing every few hours as it is, so I want to get some sleep now before he is here. I’ve even tried Unisom, doesn’t do a thing. I don’t want to try anything else. I have a Dr appt on the 27th, I’ll see if she can suggest anything.

Other then lack of sleep, I’m doing ok. Certainly much better then when I was pregnant with Amanda. This baby twirls and rolls around a lot, I hope he doesn’t get the cord wrapped around him. It is not a comfortable feeling when he does this, which is all the time he’s awake. It makes me squirm and flinch and I feel like my insides are getting pushed around.

The Wiggles are coming, but I will be 37 weeks pregnant then and I’m not sure I can make it. I so want to see them, and it’s not often they come here, and I don’t want to miss them. But it’s so close to my due date and I’m not sure I can physically go. I may just get some tickets anyway, and if I can’t make it, my mother in law would love to go

Dr’s Appointment

Had a doctors appt today. Blood pressure is borderline high, but other then that all is good. I’m on the appointment every 2 weeks schedule now. Not much longer till the new baby arrives!
