This morning we went to the school for our first parent-teacher conference day. DD showed us around her school, we met the gym teachers in the hall (are there *any* female gym teachers that don’t look masculine?), and her music teacher who told me that “she is adjusting very well to a group setting”. What’s that supposed to mean? Just because we home schooled for pre-k and k doesn’t mean DD is some kind of weirdo.
Then we met dd’s teacher. She said DD’s behavior was great, her math was great, and they are working on her reading. And I was welcome to come have lunch with DD whenever I wanted. then it was over, we got a coupon for a free bottle of juicy-juice and we left.
This past weekend one of her classmates had a birthday party we went too. It was neat to see her play with school friends, and to see how fast she is growing up. What an exciting time of life this is for her

The Junk Food Gods smiled down upon my kids on Friday at DD’s school “Fall Celebration” party. I stood in horror (but with a fake smile on my face) as they piled heaps of junk food on a plate for DD. And if that wasn’t bad enough, her teacher said “here’s an empty desk for (DS)”. DS stared in amazement at what was before him. Never before had he seen so much forbidden food in one place and all for him to eat. And never before have I had to have such a fake smile and pretend that it was OK. Lucky for me both kids didn’t eat that much. DS ate a few chips and that was all, DD ate a few cookies and a few chips and that was it. Other kids however cleared their plates.

I waited until DD was back from school and bundled up the two kids and went to the library to take advantage of Early Voting. Stood in line for about 25 minutes which is very hard with a sick 2 year old who, right as we got in site of the voting booths, thought we were at the doctors office. He started screaming, the old people in line were staring, and I’m whispering in his ear to please please stop crying, I don’t want to leave after all this time in line and I’m afraid all these old people are going to attack me. I convinced him that we were going to play a video game, we get to press buttons, and it will be fun! He calmed down and a few minutes later we went inside.
In case you care, I voted for Bredesen, Ford, and “No” for the “should marriage be only between one man and one woman” amendment. It’s tough being blue in a red state. There were other amendments, but I had no idea what they were about and I didn’t feel like standing there and reading them all, so being the negative person I am, I just hit “no” for all of them.
