Confronting a bully… 32 years later

Way back in ‘75 I was in 3rd grade Laurel, Md. This was a rough school. There was a girl in my class named “M”. She used to terrorize and beat the shit outta me every single day. She punched me and kicked me in class and the teachers never did anything. I was terrified to walk to school because she would push me in to the road. I lived with my grandmother because my mother was a violent alcoholic. “M” used to tell me how she was going to kill my grandma then kill me. In recess, I would hide on the other side of the school building so she couldn’t find me. I was a latchkey kid. I had my apartment key on a chain around my neck, and several times I ran away from school back to my apartment to hide.

Then I got glasses. Need I say more about what happened?

It got to the point that my grandmother took me out of school and put me in a school closer to my mothers farm so that when school let out I had somewhere to go. Well, I ended up having to live my mother and well life sucked after that. I won’t even go into it.

So anyway, today I was looking through Classmates.com and all 8 of the schools I went to and I saw “M”’s name. So I emailed her asking why she did what she did. I’m guessing she had a crappy home life, why else would a 3rd grader be so f’ing mean? You think i will get a reply? Probably not, but I really hope I do.

Spring Storm Season

I seem to do this every spring since I moved to Tennessee… panic. You see, they have tornadoes here. And even though I’ve lived here 8 years, I’m still not used to the fact that tornadoes happen where I live. There have been times I’ve been so scared during a storm that I’ve gathered the kids and sat shaking in the living room, while trying to look calm so the kids don’t feel my fear. I’m not afraid of thunderstorms, I love seeing nature in action. I love how the air feels and smells after a storm. I’ve been in 2 hurricanes, blizzards, even a flood that destroyed my car and I had to be evacuated by the National Guard. But tornadoes, no thanks, I’ll pass. We just had mild storms today, but they signaled the start of the storm season for me. Pass the Xanax, please.
