Yeah, my house is falling apart…

The weather has finally been nice, so I’ve taken E to the playground every day to run off his endless energy and play with other kids.  Amanda’s out of school for 4 days so she went with us on Friday.  Monday is our parent-teacher conference day.  I really don’t want to go.  I know what she needs to work on, I know she is doing great overall.   I’d be perfectly happy with an email from the teacher telling me so and be done with it.

My father in law cut down all of our dead trees last weekend.  We are still in the middle of an “exceptional” drought, almost 14 inches below normal for rain.  At least the weather is cooler, but we need rain so badly.  I see that Atlanta is going to run out of water in 3 months if they don’t get any good rain soon.  I don’t know how long our supply is.  We have several rivers that our water comes from, an no one has mentioned that we will run out of water.

So now that the dead trees are cut down, you can see the sad shape our window shutters are in.  Do you know how expensive window shutters are?  The 2 windows on the bottom floor are “custom” size, 75 inches long and 18 3/4 wide, and that almost doubles the price for the shutters for those 2 windows.  I think we may just paint them for now.  I’d rather have vinyl, but they just aren’t in the budget, and won’t be for some time.  And we have to do something.  We have a HOA and don’t want to have the crappy looking house on the street.  I don’t even know what to put in that square.  I need things that are low maintaince, drought resistant, and can handle a southern exposure with full sun all day.

Will it ever get below 90? Will it ever rain again?

I took E to the playground today.  Got home, he took a 20 minute nap:(  I really don’t like his short nap and short sleep times lately.  He woke up at 3am this morning.    I forgot to recharge my camera batteries, so I had to take his shot with my crappy cell phone.

I wish I was able to use my regular camera.  The sun was in the right place and I love the shadows.

Fighting the Freezer Burn

I have a FoodSaver that I’ve had for a few years, and even though I love it, I don’t use it that much because the bags are expensive and they are wasteful.  There isn’t any way to reseal without making the bag smaller and smaller.  So when I ran out of bags the second time, I just never bought anymore.  Plus the unit is big and I have small counterspace.

So the other day while in Food Lion, I saw a new product, Reynolds Handi-Vac vacuum sealer and reusable bags.  The vacuum sealer is handheld.  It runs on 6 AA batteries which were included.  It only cost $10.  And the vacuum freezer bags have a zip top and you can reuse them!  And they were the same cost as the other ziplock bags.  They have a little blue circle on them where you place the vacuum unit then press the button.  It sucks the air out then you are done.  It’s an almost perfect replacement for my Foodsaver.  (If it were rechargeable it would be perfect).

I just take out what I want, zip the top, and suck out the air.  No need for a new bag!
