I hate cooking.
I hate that I don’t eat meat, but everyone else does.
I hate that I have to cook it.
I hate that DH will only eat peas, corn and potatoes.
If I don’t cook, DH will heat up mac and cheese and think that’s fine and healthy for the kids.
So I have to cook, and cook it from scratch so I know whats in it. If they are going to eat meat, I want to see it so I know it’s not “mystery meat”.
Here are some of the things I do or make to save money. It may not be as healthy as I’d like it to be, but at least I know whats in the stuff and it’s cheaper to make then to buy it.
Iced Tea instead of soda. Once I developed a taste for iced tea, I love it. I even bought an iced tea maker.
Brown Sugar Soy Sauce Pork Chops
Make ahead rice. I’ve become addicted to ease of the frozen in the bag rice. In the microwave for 4 minutes and it’s done. But it’s expensive. So I now make a big pot of rice, when it’s done rinse in cold water to stop the cooking. Then I use a strainer that holds 2 cups of rice, shake out the excess water, put in a bag and freeze. When it’s frozen I just suck the air out with my foodsaver. To reheat I put the bag in hot water.
